Analytical Engineer - Norway

Are you passionate about technology for a greener future?

This OEM specializes in high-performance PEM electrolysers for large-scale green hydrogen production. Their patented technology allows their electrolysers to operate more efficiently and at higher current densities than any other electrolyser technology on the market, giving them a considerable commercial advantage.

Green hydrogen plays a key role in shaping a sustainable energy future. At this business, they believe that the full potential of renewables can only be realized by large-scale energy storage and the use of hydrogen in heavy duty transportation, the maritime sector, and industrial processes.

This is an innovative, fast growing, high-tech company, based at Høvik, just outside Oslo, Norway. At this business, you will have the opportunity to help shape the future of the company as well as develop your own career.

Job description
As an analytical engineer, you will join the growing technology team responsible for PEM electrolyser stack design, prototype unit builds and testing. You will be working on further developing our ground-breaking PEM electrolyser stack. You will be a key contributor to component design, specifications, analysis of mechanical stresses, deformation and load distributions of the different components, stacks, modules, and systems. The work will also involve some tasks related to flow simulations to improve stack and balance of stack components design. Both senior and junior candidates will be considered for the positions, but experience from the fuel cell and/or electrolyser research or industry is seen as an advantage. Responsibilities and qualification requirements will be adjusted according to experience level, competence, and background.

You should expect some travelling, both domestically and to our suppliers and partners abroad. You will be part of a rapidly growing team of motivated people who are dedicated to making green hydrogen a competitive alternative to fossil fuels.

Duties and responsibilities

Within your role you will be expected to:

  • Participate in developing PEM electrolyser stack designs from the concept phase to construction, testing and final product realization.
  • Conduct structural mechanics (FEA) and fluid flow simulations (CFD), including both pre-and post-processing analyses.
  • Coordinate CAD modelling of cell and stack components through FEA and CFD to inform on engineering design.
  • Conduct data analyses from experimental test data for model validation and design iterations.
  • Participate in the specification, design, and inspection of components such as bipolar plate materials, sealings, porous transport layers and CCMs.
  • Research, testing, and experimentation to extend electrochemical cell stack
  • functionality, and identify novel approaches for cost reduction or increased reliability.
  • Preparation of test plans, technical reports, drawings, and assembly processes.
  • Interact with and evaluate component suppliers.
  • Support R&D and future technology development.

Qualifications and requirements

  • MSc. or PhD. level degree, preferably in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Experience with and a good understanding of simulation analyses using FEA and CFD.
  • Experience with ANSYS software (Mechanical and Fluent) is an advantage.
  • Experience in relevant industries (electrolysis, fuel cells, automotive, aerospace, oil & gas).
  • Experience in the design of precision components, e.g., sealing solutions for complex assemblies.
  • Experience in industrial product development of PEM fuel cells, electrolysers or similar devices is a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes
  • Experience with using CAD software (PTC CREO, AutoCAD, Solidworks, SpaceClaim or similar) is a significant advantage.
  • Independent, proactive, and structured personality.
  • Innovative and strategic mindset.
  • The ability to assume individual responsibility, while backed by the team.
  • Motivated, engaged, solution-oriented, flexible, and positive mindset.
  • Professional level oral and written English communication skills.
